Catholic University offers students a variety of ways to get involved in sustainability efforts on campus - from academics to student organizations to finding new ways to live a more sustainable life. Check out the opportunities below to get involved on campus!

• Environmental Club

  The Catholic University of America's environmental student organization is dedicated to demonstrating the importance of sustainability through interdisciplinary educational programs, services, and engagement. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome.

• Environmental Law Society

  The Environmental Law Society (ELS) is an organization that seeks to educate and further Catholic University law students' interest in all areas of environmental law.

• Academics

  Students at Catholic University can pursue a Sustainability Minor or degrees in disciplines related to sustainability and the environment such as Environmental Chemistry or Environmental Engineering. Students are also encouraged to explore sustainability topics through the lens of other classes.

• Community Garden

  The on-campus community garden provides a space for all community members to garden together and grow produce for Cardinal Cupboard, the on-campus food pantry. All students, staff, and faculty members are welcome and no experience gardening is necessary! Group gardening sessions are every Thursday morning at 8:30 AM, but the garden is always open to the community. 

• Cardinal Closet

  Cardinal Closet is Catholic University’s on-campus free thrift store located in McMahon B02. The Closet carries women’s and men’s clothing in all sizes, and includes business, causal, athletic, formal, and maternity clothes, and more. All students, staff, and faculty members are welcome to thrift and to donate clothing!

• Cardinal Adventures

  Cardinal Adventures are small group indoor or outdoor excursions for those who love being active, the great outdoors or simply want to try something new. It provides an opportunity to get out of the city and have some fun with fellow students. Adventures are booked once a month and include activities such as paddleboarding, skiing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and ice skating. No experience is necessary and all are welcome.

• Sustainability Tours

  Join Office of Campus Sustainability staff on a guided campus tour. Tours cover a range of topics from our solar panels to our power plant building, so there is something for everyone!
