Catholic University's staff and faculty are critical to achieving the University's sustainability goals. There are a variety of ways for staff and faculty to get involved in sustainability efforts on campus.

• Sustainability Captains

  Sustainability Captains are staff and faculty members across campus who serve as their building or department's liaison to the Office of Campus Sustainability. The goal of the Sustainability Captains program is to develop a network of sustainability leaders across campus to advance sustainability initiatives.

• Green Office Certification

  Catholic University's Green Office Certification program provides a framework for offices to learn how to incorporate sustainability concepts into their work environments. If offices are interested in certifying themselves as a Green Office, they can submit the Green Office Certification Checklist to the Office of Campus Sustainability.

• Sustainability Tours

  Join Office of Campus Sustainability staff on a guided campus tour. Tours cover a range of topics from our solar panels to our power plant building and general campus sustainability. Faculty and staff are encouraged to sign up for tours with their classes, departments, and offices. Tour content can be tailored for individual groups and can be scheduled for regularly scheduled class or meeting times.

• Classroom Collaborations

  The Office of Campus Sustainability encourages faculty members across the university to consider ways to incorporate conversations about sustainability into their courses, whether or not the courses are focused on sustainability or the environment. Classroom collaborations and sustainability tours encourage students to consider sustainability as it relates to their fields of study.

• Community Garden

  The on-campus community garden provides a space for all community members to garden together and grow produce for Cardinal Cupboard, the on-campus food pantry. All students, staff, and faculty members are welcome and no experience gardening is necessary! Group gardening sessions are every Thursday morning at 8:30 AM, but the garden is always open to the community. 

• Cardinal Closet

  Cardinal Closet is Catholic University’s on-campus free thrift store located in McMahon B02. The Closet carries women’s and men’s clothing in all sizes, and includes business, causal, athletic, formal, and maternity clothes, and more. All students, staff, and faculty members are welcome to thrift and to donate clothing!
