The Capital Planning, Design, and Construction (CPDC) department within the Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) Division works closely with campus and community constituents to envision, plan, program, design, construct, and sustain the facilities and environmental resources of this unique campus within the nation's capital.
The Capital Program includes new construction as well as alterations, renewals, and expansions of existing facilities, resolution of deferred maintenance, and preservation and enhancement of landscapes and open spaces. The CPDC department is responsible for planning, scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and the overall management and quality of capital projects. The team provides in-house services as well as oversight of contracted professionals for building and landscape design and construction, real estate transaction support, space utilization and data analytics, space programming, interior design, signage, building commissioning, project record keeping, fiscal review, and progress reporting. CPDC is also responsible for building code compliance oversight and coordination with the city's Authorities-Having-Jurisdiction (AHJs) for permitting and approvals.
Guided by the University's mission and vision, and informed by the University's Strategic Plan, Campus Plan, and Capital Campaign, the interdisciplinary CPDC team works closely with Leadership, faculty, staff, students, and external entities in overseeing capital projects from inception through occupancy.

NEW! 2027 Campus Plan
CPDC leads the planning effort to create a campus environment that adheres to the University’s mission through campus planning and individual building planning. Projects in development on campus currently fall under the zoning approval of the 2012 Campus Master Plan, which has a 15-year duration from 2012 to 2027.
The University's next campus plan is under development. The 2027 Campus Plan, which will also have a 15-year horizon, is expected to be in place by mid-2027 and in effect through 2042. The 2027 Campus Plan will build on enduring aspects of the 2012 Master Plan, align with current and emerging goals and priorities, celebrate campus history, and anticipate the 150th anniversary of the founding of The Catholic University of America in 2037.
As part of the 2027 Campus Plan process, we invite you to help us imagine what’s next, explore new ideas, and help shape a campus that meets Catholic University’s evolving needs in the context of our surrounding community. Please use this input portal to share your questions, thoughts, and ideas with the project team.
Please visit this page for additional information as it becomes available throughout the planning process.

Interior Design Services
CPDC provides design, procurement, and management services for new furniture, interior finishes and signage. Projects range in scope from individual space refreshes to complete building interior renovations.
Requests for new and/or replacement office furniture should be reviewed with department budget administrators for availability of funds before being entered as a Facilities Request. The Planning and Design Management department is tasked with maintaining furniture standards and has contractual relationships with several vendors.
